Prior to leaving for a work trip the week of the US elections, I had received triple confirmation of my husband’s plane being “grounded” and the trip not going “as scheduled”. He left normal enough, the meetings went well, he received public honor in front of all the company leaders for being the best at department budgets throughout COVID, then the email came the morning he was scheduled to return – “Your flight has been cancelled.” Not delayed but outright cancelled, and no alternative flight rebooked.
My husband had been given the instruction the prior night to get up early. He acted in faith to set his alarm early at 7am instead of enjoying sleeping in before catching the afternoon flight. However, the LORD jolted him awake at 5am, to alert him to the email. He immediately called me, to which I reminded him of the advanced triple warning of being grounded and to get his marching orders from the LORD BEFORE calling the ticket agent because there’s a divine assignment in this.
Later, he reported the events that required CONSISTENT obedience steps to walk by faith instead of by sight and wield his sword of declaration of life instead of fear, doubt, and unbelief. The advance warning helped him keep his bearings and INTENTIONALLY LOOK FOR GOD’S OPPORTUNITY in this, instead of embracing the wave of panic trying to crash into him. He called the ticket agent, who notified him there was one seat left “But you won’t make it. It’s leaving too soon.” He rejected her doubt and unbelief, declaring, “BOOK IT! I’LL MAKE IT!”, threw everything into his suitcase, and without a shower or breakfast bolted for the airport.
Booking his luggage through, the clerk asked him how on earth he got this ticket because there are so many passengers stranded from the grounded planes??? The sea of stranded passengers would likely have to wait at least 4 days as this was the Remembrance Day long-weekend. “You are one lucky guy!” My husband replied it wasn’t luck but God’s favour. His Bible reading plan happened to be on Ezekiel 9, to which the LORD highlighted to him, “Those who have the mark of God – True followers…Holy Spirit-filled will be spared! And those who remain in the atmosphere of repentance have the mark.”
The security lines were LONG but again, he DECLARED he would make it through in time. By the time he got to the gate, he noted the flight had been delayed by 30 minutes – the perfect amount of time for him to check-in, get through security, and run for the gate.
Then the next test of faith came with only a 55 min layover to make his connection, except that was now a mere 25 minutes due to the prior delay and he was at the very back of the plane. Yet he continued to keep his declarations in check. He pointed out he needed to PEE! And he was HUNGRY! God heard his requests and delayed the next flight by 15 minutes, the perfect amount of time to make the transfer with an empty bladder and a Tim Horton’s sandwich in hand.
The next obstacle presented for the final leg of the journey was possessing a seat on the airbus home for the next pick-up at 5pm instead of the previously scheduled 8pm pick-up. He really didn’t want to wait around for 3 hrs so he acted in faith expecting a seat to be available and went down to the bus. It was a full bus but a seat was available! The trip was shaping up to be the milk run of dropping all a full bus of clients off as we are one of the furthest away stops. However, 20 minutes away from the house with still a full bus, the driver informed everyone to get off – “You’re being split up and sent home in taxi’s. We’re short drivers tonight.” He was home in 15 minutes, with his luggage in hand and supper ready to put before him.
Throughout this journey, God was highlighting to me the consistent contrast of chaos and favour, curses or blessings. What was devouring one crew of people was blessing Stephen. Just because there has been prophesies that the Mother of Chaos spirit and its spawn had been unleashed at such a time as now and to fight it in prayer, chose instead to walk in the opposite direction of KNOWING God’s voice and nature, and ACTING by faith. Sometimes we need to STOP wasting mental, emotional, and spiritual energy interceding against all the demonic attacks, and simply walk through them in bold obedient faith trusting that our God truly is capable of making the impossible possible!
Rather, teach people to Fear the LORD FIRST evidenced by keeping His commandments so that favour and blessing have an open pipe over your life to manifest THEN your prayers and decrees of God’s words in your mouth will be heard by the angelic host without having to spend hours or even years on your knees to get some action. Those who refuse to shema (hear AND obey) His Law, even their prayers will be an abomination so get yourself plumblined FIRST, THEN wield that sword in your mouth.
Proverbs 15:8 KJV – The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.
Proverbs 28:9 KJV – He that turneth away his ear from hearing (*shema-ing) the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.
The other thing was that this entire trip was made possible by a “negative” prophetic word about a bad thing that would happen. BECAUSE he knew the plane was prophesied to be grounded, he didn’t spiral into fear and worry when it manifested. Instead, he knew that if God was giving him the heads up about it, He also had a reason and solution to bypass the obstacle. The 12 spies saw the giants, but only 2 saw God’s purpose in the giants and their fortresses! All through the trip, he was looking for those divine appointments to release God’s presence into those around him, maintaining the posture and attitude of expectancy instead of complaining, worry, or control. Now that he’s back, he has an awesome testimony to share with his co-workers (and to you all), possibly some who also got stranded in that same airport quagmire.
I pondered the significance of all this happening on Remembrance Day long weekend since our family has a tendency to live out prophetic acts, and was led to Malachi 3:16-18:
Malachi 3:16-18 KJV – 16 Then they that feared the Lord spake often one to another: and the Lord hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon his name. 17 And they shall be mine, saith the Lord of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels H5459; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him. 18 Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.
Exodus 19:5 KJV – Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure H5459 unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:
Deut 26:18 KJV – And the LORD hath avouched thee this day to be his peculiar H5459 people, as he hath promised thee, and that thou shouldest keep all his commandments;
