I’ve recently come across several people that have attended church, some for over half a century, who haven’t heard about the Python spirit/demon so here’s what the LORD has taught me in a nutshell. We are warned not to be ignorant of the devil’s devices.
In Acts 16:16-19, a fortune telling girl with a Python spirit / spirit of divination followed Paul around declaring the “truth” but in a way that drew attention to herself and not God. It tormented him, suffocating his ministry until he finally used his authority to cast that spirit out, which caused her to lose her soothsayer abilities (aka prophesying/words of knowledge through an unclean spirit, which can still be accurate).
Note that this girl wasn’t a soothsayer by God-given identity but rather one who had the ability to operate in soothsayer power, given to her by a demon. The origin of the power wasn’t exposed until the demon was cast out, leaving her powerless. This angered her master’s that enjoyed the money she made them. Her identity & value were tied to what she did through the demonic powers and not who she was created by God to be. This spirit can operate WITHIN a person, as in the fortune-telling girl, or it can come AT someone, as it did with the Apostle Paul.
Python is a spirit of divination/witchcraft that will suffocate out powerful, effectual prayer of the righteous man and high praise of God, which is singing/decreeing scripture back to the LORD because God’s word is even higher than His name – Psalm 138:2 – “You have magnified Your word above all Your name.”
The power of pure praise is evident throughout scripture where it threw the enemy’s armies into confusion, bringing the breakthrough so no wonder the devil will try to shut it down before it even gets going. Many prophets have declared breakthrough this year through praise, even encouraging us to pray and praise as we crossover the threshold into 2020. This decade will be the Decade of the Mouth where praying and praising with what comes out of God’s mouth will play a big part in advancing the Kingdom of God.
The onslaught of divination witchcraft coming AT someone will bring weariness, defeat, heaviness, brain fog, victim mindset/helplessness/hopelessness, fatigue, and eventually spiritual blindness/deafness and then death/suicide if tolerated. Sometimes I see it resting on congregations like a thick wet blanket during worship or hear individuals gasping in the Spirit or feel such a deep sense of hopelessness where they have lost the will to fight the enemy any further.
My most recent experience with this spirit is when a reverend walked in our front door who had given over so much control to this spirit that it knocked everyone else in the home spiritually flat until we figured out what hit us and walked everyone through deliverance, which brought DRASTIC relief.
One of the ways Python resides in a person, using them as a host to torment others under their influence, is when they are deceived that the Law of God is not to be obeyed today, that it has been done away with because we have Jesus now! This false doctrine directly contradicts Matt 5:17-20 and Rev 22:14. This doctrine robs them of spiritual authority, which enables the spirit to stay unhampered.
Many prophetic people are plagued repeatedly by this demon. For most who learn about this demon and try to cast it out, they find it only leaves temporarily. Then like a revolving door, it waltzes right back in. Anyone feel Bipolar and know it’s not them but something happening TO them? This demon can be one of the spiritual causes!
The reason there often isn’t long lasting victory is that that they walk in ignorant lawlessness that causes so much devouring every time they try to push forward into their destiny. They are walking into battle without a covenant shield to protect them, making them easy pickings.
Hosea 4:6 says – ” 6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.” I believe for most prophetic people, it’s not a case of rampant rebellion but they simply don’t know what they don’t know because the former generation failed to teach God’s ways to their children.
When obedience to God’s commandments is confronted and the conviction of the Holy Spirit stirs someone’s heart, their heart condition will be exposed. Will they be humble enough to be teachable and be a Berean to see where they need to come into alignment or will they’re too proud or fearful to examine their life-long beliefs, refusing to change if needed?
Be warned! If you are confronted with truth with an opportunity to repent and willingly chose to turn a blind eye to it, the wrath of God will be the next thing you experience. (Heb 10:26-31) I’ve released enough warnings like Jeremiah & Ezekiel and had to watch the destruction that followed the stubborn and rebellious. (Prov 17:11, 1 Sam 15:23) Some lost their minds, either needing to be locked in Psych wards when the demons were handed more control (Matt 12:43-45), or they got hit with sudden onset of dementia/stroke/cancer as their flesh was handed over to Satan so their spirit might be salvaged (1 Cor 5:5) Others died painful or unnatural deaths. (2 Peter 2:1) Still others’ ministries collapsed out from under them. (Is 22:17-19) Yet others’ finances were cursed. (Prov 13:18) I’ve also watched the abundance of blessings pour out upon those who repent – mortgages supernaturally paid off, windfalls of finances/resources, sudden favor/promotion with their business, their children being healed, marriages restored, legal battle breakthroughs to name just a few.
The false doctrine that Jesus did away with the Law also removes the definition of sin, therefore removing from us the freeing responsibility of confessing & repenting of our sin and walking in obedience to God’s commandments that brings healing. (Deut 7:12,15; James 5:15-16) It’s the prayers of a righteous man that will operate in God’s power, not the wicked. The wicked tap into demonic power, like Pharaoh’s and Nebuchadnezzar’s magicians. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 28:9 – “He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.” Psalm 66:18 – “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me.” However, the devil WILL hear us and gladly fill in the void, sometimes deceiving us to think God is answering our prayers in order to manipulate us.
Failure to obey God’s commandments means we don’t know God (1 Jn 2:3-5), we don’t love God by His definition of love (Jn 14:15), He doesn’t abide with us (so what is that we have mistaken for the Holy Spirit???) (Jn 14:21-23), and we don’t have eternal life. (Jn 17:3, Rev 22:14).
A common sidekick with the Python spirit in churches that fail to teach God’s commandments is charismatic witchcraft (also known as white witchcraft). This is praying/decreeing/declaring according to man’s will instead of God’s will. It releases a lot of unintentional (and some intentional!) curses due to a lack of discernment (understanding) in the church. Spiritual discernment only grows when one has the Fear of the LORD. (Deut 4:6, Ps 111:10, Prov 9:10)
Those who aren’t filled with the baptism of the Holy Spirit AND KNOW the LORD easily fall into this because how can they discern God’s will to pray into a situation if they can’t hear the Spirit of God, which requires we must be born again in the Spirit and walking in the Spirit? Death and Life are in the power of the tongue and those who love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Sometimes God’s will be to bring judgment upon the wicked church (i.e. read throughout Ezekiel). Sometimes it’s to offer mercy upon Ninevah.
If we are ignorantly praying against God’s will, it is rebellion which is as the sin of witchcraft. (1 Sam 15:23) It was God’s will for ALL the Amalekites to be utterly destroyed but King Saul showed mercy to King Agag & saved the spoil for themselves. Stubbornly declaring by our words and actions that we don’t need to obey God’s commandments (in the spirit of the Law) and instead doing what WE feel/think is right means we are participating in idolatry and iniquity. (also 1 Sam 15:23).
