During the wee hours of July 7, 2022, I was woken up hearing “The Daughter of Babylon uncovered the thigh.”
There were two parallel meanings that were highlighted with the phrase “uncovering the thigh” statement.
1) The verse image that immediately came to mind as I was waking up was of Abraham sealing a vow with his servant putting a hand under Abraham’s thigh.
Genesis 24:2, 9 – 2 And Abraham said unto his eldest servant of his house, that ruled over all that he had, Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh: … 9 And the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and sware to him concerning that matter.
Genesis 47:29 – And the time drew nigh that Israel must die: and he called his son Joseph, and said unto him, If now I have found grace in thy sight, put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh, and deal kindly and truly with me; bury me not, I pray thee, in Egypt:
The message that leapt out from the waking rhema was that the daughters of Babylon were covenant breakers. This is confirmed in the deeper dive into characteristics of the daughters of Babylon, that lists the specific breaches in covenant. We had just MC’ed a betrothal on the weekend, so the weightiness of breaking covenant with the Most High God is SERIOUS stuff. Jesus said that although the Laws of Moses tolerated covenant breaking divorce due to sexual immorality, He points out that option is only for the heart-hearted.
2) The actual verse that contains the phrase, “Daughter of Babylon uncover the thigh” is found in Isaiah 47:1-3.
Isaiah 47:1-3 KJV – Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: there is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate. 2 Take the millstones, and grind meal: uncover thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers. 3 Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man.
Isaiah 47:2 lists 5 things so what else was hidden in plain sight that I haven’t seen before?
1) Take the millstones & grind meal. We are to offer to the LORD an offering of finely ground meal/flour, not hard individual kernels of wheat. It takes effort to break down the hardness of those kernels into finely ground flour that can be turned into bread or unleavened cakes. It takes effort to bring our wills under submission. The remaining 4 things listed are WHERE repentance needs to be walked into.
2) Uncover thy locks. 1 Cor 11: 5 But every woman (*Church is bride of Christ) that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered (*by covenant) dishonoureth her head (*Jesus Christ, her betrothed husband; also her physical earthly spouse): for that is even all one as if she were shaven (*as a whore, the whore of Babylon). One of the areas for the will to be ground down is to submit to godly covering, which is God’s covenantal laws written upon our hearts by the Holy Spirit. We are commanded not to grieve the Holy Spirit. Woe to those who cover with a covering but NOT of My Spirit, that they may add sin unto sin. (Isaiah 30:1)
3) Make bare the leg. This one took a little deeper digging. First I was reminded of how the priests were commanded to wear thigh-length linen undies under their priestly garments for modesty sake, for when they went up on the altar, no one would accidentally get a peep show. (Exodus 28:42). However, the context didn’t really fit since it was a DAUGHTER of Babylon, not the priests. When I unpacked the Hebrew, “Make bare” is H2834 – Hasap = to strip off (as to expose oneself), uncover. “The leg” is H7640 – Sobel = flowing skirt, lady’s train. Therefore this passage can be translated as “Strip off thy train”. The Daughters of Babylon have embraced an immodest, unfeminine style of clothing. This really gained strength at the beginning of Roe Vs. Wade 50 years ago and progressed to such a degree that true biological females are looked down upon for dressing & acting femininely & demurely while the drag queen men mock femininity while dressing up in fancy, immodest dresses themselves. Today’s culture of females striving to adopt a more masculine aura is repeated in verse 3, “and I will not meet thee as a man.” A woman will never be comfortable in her God-given identity as long as she presents herself as something she isn’t and refuses to embrace her femininity in a way that cherishes her worth. One never sees a queen in state trouncing around today’s youth and young adult attire of mid-drift tops, booty shorts, or dresses so revealing they have to be constantly adjusted to avoid intentionally designed exposure that scald the eyes. Nor do you see the Queen of England dressed up in manly attire trying to pass herself off as the King.
Another angle is that God’s covenant is often pictured as a skirt, a wing, a covering, usually referencing the Hebrew word “Kanaph”. So this can be poetic imagery depicting a woman stripping herself of God’s covenantal covering and in turn His protections.
4) Uncover the Thigh – Surprisingly, the Hebrew H7785 – Soq – shows this word “thigh” x 19 references does NOT Refer to the upper part of the human’s leg referred to in the verse about Abraham and his servant, but rather the lower leg of a human or the right shoulder portion of the sacrificial animal. 13 verses highlight “Ram of consecration”, the wave/heave & peace offering that goes to the High Priest and the Priesthood as their provision for food. “Uncover” H1540 gala means to uncover, remove, depart, go into exile. Another translation for this passage “Uncover the thigh” can be “remove the heave and peace offerings and the provision of the priesthood.” We see the wicked Sons of Eli pollute the ram of consecration that was to be seethed in the holy place (Ex 29:27-32) by taking it before it was seethed/boiled so they could enjoy a blue-rare or medium well juicy BBQ. (1 Sam 2:12-17). The result of this wickedness was that the people abhorred the offering of the LORD BECAUSE the offerings were not treated as holy. The covenant of the LORD was breached in relation to the people’s offerings. On the physical tangent, Daughters of Babylon uncover themselves and their offerings, treating themselves cheaply. Our bodies are to be living sacrifices, holy and acceptable to the LORD.
5) Pass over the Rivers – “to pass over or by or through, alienate, bring, carry, do away, take, take away, transgress” . “The rivers”H5104 Nahar – is literally stream or river. What leapt out here considering the below characteristic list of Daughters of Babylon being full of sin & iniquity, is that they have alienated, done away with, or taken away the Jordan River that symbolizes repentance by the washing of the water of the word. Instead of being washed in the water, they chose to pass over it resulting in the filth of transgression clinging to them. Also, Jesus said he would send us the comforter, the Holy Spirit, that would flow out of our bellies like streams of living waters. When the Living Streams have been passed over, alienated, done away with, you’re left with a barren desert that is crying out for the streams in the wilderness.
As I was pondering this passage, the contrast of Isaiah 30 and Revelation 3 suddenly had fresh meaning. Pay attention to the focus on coverings and NAKEDNESS .
Isaiah 30:1-3 KJV – Woe to the rebellious children, saith the Lord, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin: 2 That walk to go down into Egypt, and have not asked at my mouth; to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to trust in the shadow of Egypt! 3 Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the trust in the shadow of Egypt your confusion.
Rev 3:15-19 KJV – 15 I know thy works, that thou [Church of the Laodiceans] art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. 16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. 17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: 18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. As Jesus said, “Be zealous therefore, and repent!” for the judgment of DEARTH is coming upon the wicked, to hit hard by the Fall Feasts. There is also a coming judgment of DEATH to hit the spouses and children of the Daughters of Babylon in a single 24 hr period. That will be unpacked in depth in a coming blog.
