Previously I released a blog “God’s Purpose & Action Plan” highlighting Psalm 35:6, where the Angel of the LORD would persecute those who came against those with the heart of David. Then on Friday, March 4th, 2022, the phrase “Destroying Angels” was highlighted as we walked through Psalm 78 NLT. Many prophets have been warning about their imminent release since late 2021, so this is nothing new. Timothy Dixon shared his warning dream “Snakes in the Capitol” also on March 4th (although I discovered his video today on the 6th). He is calling American political government to repent. I call church government and their sheep to repent. Therefore, we know that God is going to be dealing with ALL leadership from the fathers as spiritual heads of their homes clear up to top governmental leadership. The highlight for me had to do with WHY the destroying angels were being released and upon WHOM. I’ll also connect how a few warning themes since 2016 tie together with this word. So let’s dig in!
Psalm 78:49-50 – 49 He loosed on them his fierce anger—
all his fury, rage, and hostility.
He dispatched against them
a band of DESTROYING ANGELS.
50 He turned his anger against them;
he did not spare the Egyptians’ lives
but ravaged them with the PLAGUE.
The KJV calls them “evil angels.” AMP calls them “angels of destruction”. AMPC calls them “angels of calamity and woe.” HCSB calls them “deadly messengers.”
The important thing to note there is that these angels of destruction, calamity, & woe are sent FROM THE LORD, not the demons sent by the devil. We must recognize the source, which would lead to true heart-level repentance and cessation of the discipline session, to stop the ratcheting up in intensity as per Leviticus 26’s x 7 levels. There were many prophets warning not to mistake the way God was moving or to give the devil credit for something that was truly from the hand of the LORD. I have previously warned about “Woe to the rebellious children of Israel” with all the Isaiah 30-related words over the years. The rebellious Vashti’s will be deposed with the Esther’s arising in their place. The bad shepherds who scattered the sheep will be replaced with those good shepherds who will guide the sheep in knowledge and understanding. The wicked leaders of God’s promised seed who skin their flock and plucked their flesh from their bones in order to get rich will be plowed like an open field and be reduced to ruins. The rebellious leaders who resemble empty pots instead of being filled with lit lamps and servants of God who fornicated and committed adultery with Jezebel will be shattered beyond restoration and cast upon sick beds and their children with death.
WHY?
A complete read of Psalm 78 reveals the answer – They refused to obey God’s commandments and enter into covenant with Him from their hearts. This is paralleled with Isaiah 42 that God’s blind and deaf servants were in pits and prison houses because they refused to obey His Laws. It also parallels with the Israelite’s journey throughout the wilderness documented from Genesis to Deuteronomy with the repeated chastisements when they rebelled, including when they argued and complained. A loving father will discipline the children he loves.
Psalm 78:5-10 – 5 For he issued his LAWS to Jacob;
he gave his instructions to Israel.
He commanded our ancestors
to teach them to their children,
6 so the next generation might know them—
even the children not yet born—
and they in turn will teach their own children.
7 So each generation should set its hope anew on God,
not forgetting his glorious miracles
and obeying his commands.
8 Then they will not be like their ancestors—
STUBBORN, REBELLIOUS, AND UNFAITHFUL, REFUSING TO GIVE THEIR HEARTS TO GOD.
9 The warriors of Ephraim, though armed with bows,
turned their backs and fled on the day of battle.
10 THEY DID NOT KEEP GOD’S COVENANT AND REFUSED TO LIVE BY HIS INSTRUCTIONS.
WHO?
Vs 8 reveals 3 categories – The stubborn, rebellious, and unfaithful. Vs 50 reveals the plagues hit the Egyptians. Digging through scripture expands on that to all who did not dwell in Goshen AND for the final plague, those who did not apply the blood of the lamb (today, that’s Jesus’ blood) to the doorposts and stay INSIDE their dwelling place. Ps 91 confirms this that those who love and know God, which requires obeying His commandments, will be spared when the Destroying Angels sweep through the land.
Stubborn:
- Extremely reluctant or unwilling to change a particular opinion, behavior, or course of action, especially when faced with opposition.
The LORD repeatedly called the Israelites stiff-necked and uncircumcised, stubborn as a mule. Why? Because they refused to submit to His commandments when they knew what they were. The opposite contrast would be a well-trained, submissive horse that even when ridden bareback without a bridle can be guided with a gentle squeeze of the knees or shift of weight as the horse and rider become united in movement.
1 Samuel 15:23 shows that stubbornness is as idolatry (of self) and iniquity, and God’s wrath is poured out upon those who worship created objects, including human beings, and refuse to relinquish their iniquity. I’ll let you do your own word search on “Iniquity” to decide if you want to be foolish enough to want to stay attached to that live wire.
Picture it this way. God is about to flip the breaker and He’s repeatedly warned you to let go of that exposed wire that is about to suddenly have power surging through it. He has sent His prophets to warn you to get your bare feet out of that mud puddle and flee to the safety of the Holy Hill that requires clean hands and a pure heart with your feet solidly upon the Rock of Salvation.
Unfortunately, stubbornness digs in their heels and tightens their grip onto the condemned behaviour, action, or thinking, saying, “I’m going to do this MY way, and you can’t make me change, so there!” You can be stubborn in refusing to change your governmental policies, your business practices, your theology, your attitude, your eating habits, your foul language, your sexual practices, etc. to lining up with God’s plumbline of scripture. A wise child will humble themselves and repent at a verbal (or digital) rebuke. A simple child will learn as they watch the fool receive the rod across their stubborn posteriors that also are aptly named the same as a mule named Jack. Simply put, anything that the Holy Spirit has put His finger upon and you stubbornly refuse to change, will be a target for the destroying angels.
Rebellious:
- Resisting control or authority; “temperamentally rebellious”; “a rebellious crew”
- Discontented as toward authority
- Participating in organized resistance to a constituted government; “the rebelling confederacy”
- Participating in open revolt against a government or ruling authority:
When we recognize that God’s government and authority is supreme, anything or anyone that defies that is rebellious. When God said, “Do not do X,Y, Z”, and you go ahead and do it or conversely “Do this!” and you don’t, you are rebellious and a target for the destroying angel. When we rebel against His delegated governmental agents be it parents, spiritual elders, or governmental ministers as they enforce God’s commandments, we are walking in rebellion. However, when they step outside from God’s delegated authority to enforce their own standards that are contrary to His commandments, then we ought to obey God rather than man and stand out of the way as God chastens them.
Many in the church think they have the RIGHT to disobey because their theology declares that Jesus’ obedience unto death somehow made THEIR continued willful disobedience and pleasuring the carnal flesh acceptable. Sorry, but that just shows how far people are willing to stoop to excuse their rebellion in the name of cleverly crafted man-made theology. I don’t care who told you that you’re saved because you said a cute little salvation when you were 4, but if you refuse to consistently submit your mind, will, emotions, body, and spirit to the authority of the LORD Jesus Christ, the one you declared was the rightful boss of your life when you agreed to be purchased by his blood that cost Him His very life, then you will discover sooner or later the painful consequences of being a defiant purchase. The good news is that Holy Spirit empowers us to walk by the spirit and not according to the flesh, and will convict us any time we begin to stray towards sin if we will listen. However, it still requires us to daily pick up our cross and follow Christ so that our consciences do not become seared and our spiritual ears deafened to His voice. A single repeat-after-me prayer as a child will not protect you from the destroying angel.
Deuteronomy 21:19-21 Berean – 19his father and mother are to lay hold of him and bring him to the elders of his city, to the gate of his hometown, 20and say to the elders, “This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious; he does not obey us. He is a glutton and a drunkard.” 21Then all the men of his city will stone him to death. So you must purge the evil from among you, and all Israel will hear and be afraid.…
Unfaithful:
- Not faithful; false to duty, obligation, or promises; disloyal.
- Not sexually faithful to a spouse or lover.
- Not accurate or reliable; inexact: an unfaithful translation.
When we agree to be purchased by the blood of Jesus Christ in exchange for Him paying the penalty of the curse of the Law, we enter into a legal covenant that has obligations to uphold our side of the covenant. If we agreed to be the Bride of Christ, we are required to be faithful to our marriage vows, one of which is that wives are to submit to and respect their husbands and stay within the boundaries of our marriage covenant instead of being an adulterous wife.
The scary part is that many denominations have failed to outline that what exactly was entailed in that marriage covenant when they invite people to “Come to the altar & get saved”, nor do they point out the consequences of breaking that marriage vow. This is why so many new Christians are shocked when life suddenly starts to go wrong every which way the moment they walk away from the altar because they are still acting like an unmarried prostitute post-salvation prayer and now the devil has a legal right to kill, steal, and destroy based on the marriage covenant because a curse WITH cause CAN land.
Egyptians:
In Psalm 78, Egyptians are those who are NOT in covenant with the LORD to begin with. Above, the stubborn, rebellious, and unfaithful who entered into covenant with the LORD but acted as if the covenant boundaries don’t apply to them will attract the destroying angel. Here, we have those who did NOT enter into covenant to begin with will also attract the destroying angel.
Exodus 11:4-7 NLT – 4 Moses had announced to Pharaoh, “This is what the Lord says: At midnight tonight I will pass through the heart of Egypt. 5 All the firstborn sons will die in every family in Egypt, from the oldest son of Pharaoh, who sits on his throne, to the oldest son of his lowliest servant girl who grinds the flour. Even the firstborn of all the livestock will die. 6 Then a loud wail will rise throughout the land of Egypt, a wail like no one has heard before or will ever hear again. 7 But among the Israelites it will be so peaceful that not even a dog will bark. Then you will know that the Lord makes a distinction between the Egyptians and the Israelites.
Who Else?
Where else do we see the manifestation of a destroying angel and who were their targets so we can ensure we do not end up in their crosshairs as much as it is within our control?
Assyrians:
- Isaiah 37:36 NLT – That night the angel of the LORD went out to the Assyrian camp and killed 185,000 Assyrian soldiers. When the surviving Assyrians woke up the next morning, they found corpses everywhere.
- The Assyrians were the wicked ones sent to smite the foolish children of Israel with the rod for a season then God would shatter them with His voice. (Isaiah 30:31)
Complainers / Grumblers:
- 1 Cor 10:10 NIV – And do not grumble, as some of them did—and were killed by the destroying angel.
Citizens of an anointed but rebellious king (David, in this case):
- 2 Sam 24:15-17 Berean – 15So the LORD sent a plague upon Israel from that morning until the appointed time, and seventy thousand of the people from Dan to Beersheba died. 16But when the angel stretched out his hand to destroy Jerusalem, the LORD relented from the calamity and said to the angel who was destroying the people, “Enough! Withdraw your hand now!” At that time the angel of the LORD was by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite. 17When David saw the angel striking down the people, he said to the LORD, “Surely I, the shepherd, have sinned and acted wickedly. But these sheep, what have they done? Please, let Your hand fall upon me and my father’s house.”…
Those who do not give glory to God:
- Acts 12:23 Berean – Immediately, because Herod did not give glory to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died.
The Solution:
This blog would be mighty discouraging if we did not offer the solution to be protected from the destroying angel. If you notice in the last scripture, it was the Angel of the LORD that did the destroying. Ironically, it is the very same Angel of the LORD that is your defense IF you position yourself appropriately. We see this lived out with King Hezekiah being protected by the Angel of the LORD against the 185,000 Assyrians who ended up as corpses in a single night . The key to your protection and deliverance is to Fear the LORD, which many a prophet have decreed is returning to the body of Christ for better or worse. It’s up to you to decide which group you’ll be a part of.
Psalm 34:7 – The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.
To learn more on the BIBLICAL definition and not merely a man-made church definition, check out my in-depth “Fear the LORD & Prosper” manual midway down my resource page – http://www.myfatherswitness.com/resources . A quick assessment of whether you are walking in the Fear of the LORD can be found on pg 11-14. No one is perfect. Rather, the issue at hand is the heart attitude. The righteous may trip 7 times but get back up and keep trying. Are we purposing in our hearts to hide God’s word in our hearts that we might not sin against Him? Or are we thinking we can get away with murder because we have our “Get out of hell” salvation card with rust eating through our Jesus paint, the corrosion of sin that we thought we could get away with hiding under a false veneer of outward religion?
The false veneers are about to be ripped off to let the light into the church and the world at large. It’s going to be ugly, messy, and painful. However, it WILL bear fruit as the death is purged from the womb of the church so that it can be once again be filled with the real glory and the real hope that is full of life – Christ in us, the hope of glory!
John 3:20 Berean – Everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come into the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.Acts 26:17-18 Berean – …17I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles. I am sending you to them 18to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those sanctified by faith in Me.’
