THE MYSTERY REVEALED WITHIN VA’ERA

Today (Jan 16/2021) during our sabbath Parashat VA ’era reading (“and I appeared”), a verse leapt out as a code message. Below is what our home group of homes came unpacked.

– Exodus 6:25-26 – 25 And Eleazar Aaron’s son took him one of the daughters of Putiel to wife; and she bare him Phinehas: these are the heads of the fathers of the Levites according to their families. 26 These are that Aaron and Moses, to whom the Lord said, Bring out the children of Israel from the land of Egypt according to their armies.
Aaron was the high priest, and today Jesus Christ is our high priest. Eleazar means “God has helped.” God will help the sons of God who are led by the Spirit of God that the earth has been groaning and waiting for. Eleazar entered into covenant with Putiel, which means “contempt of God and afflicted of God”. That would make sense, as the ones who view God’s commandments as contemptable will be the ones that cause God’s judgment to land upon them. They conceived a son named Phinehas, which means “Mouth of a serpent” and “Mouth of Brass.” Isn’t that fitting? His priestly father taught him about repentance and his mother taught him about the deception of the serpent. Such is the dangers of mixture within the marriage covenant.
However, there always comes a crisis point when one must choose which fork in the road they will walk. Will they follow after God or will they follow those who find God and His Laws contemptable and suffer the consequences? That moment of pressure came for Phinehas in Numbers 25 when the Israelite camp had been polluted by Balaam’s doctrine. While abiding in the place of Shittim, the Scourging Thorns of His Ark, they were seduced into partnering with Midianite whores worshiping Baalpeor spiritually and to commit sexual sin physically. This brought a disastrous plague upon the Israelites because they disobeyed the Most High God’s purity commandments in the camp resulting in 24,000 of His own people dying.
God’s anger kindled against them and told Moses, “Take all the heads of the people (**the leaders), and hang them up before the Lord against the sun (**Public execution), that the fierce anger of the Lord may be turned away from Israel.” And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, “Slay ye everyone his men (**compromised followers) that were joined unto Baalpeor.” (Num 25:4, 5)
When the congregation of the children of Israel were repenting, Phinehas saw a brazen leader bringing a Midianites woman into his tent, grabbed a javelin, and thrust it through both whoring leader and the woman. Why did he attack one of his own brethren?
– Num 25:8b – “So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.”
– Num 25:11- 11 Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.
His reward?
– Num 25:12-13 – 12 Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my COVENANT OF PEACE covenant of peace: 13 And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the COVENANT OF AN EVERLASTING PRIESTHOOD; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.
Now, where else in the Bible do we find the Covenant of Peace and the themes surrounding those references?
– Ezekiel 34:25 – Woe to the self-serving shepherds.
– Ezekiel 37:26 – The rise of the David Kingdom
– Isaiah 54:10 – As the waters of Noah (that destroyed the wicked population)
– Malachi 2:5 – Rebellious priests to be disciplined.

Another piece that leapt out during the Parashat reading was that Aaron’s rod swallowed up the Egyptian scorcerer’s rod when they all turned into serpents. This brings a whole new meaning to Psalm 23:4.
– Psalm 23:4 – 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy ROD and thy staff they comfort me.
– Rev 2:26-27 – 26 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: 27 And he shall rule them with a ROD of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.
– Prov 26:3 – A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a ROD for the fool’s back.
In Exodus 8:19, we see the Egyptians finally had to acknowledge at the 4th plague that the God of the Israelites is stronger than they are. Notice the pattern with the Finger of God in connection with judgment against the nations who are rebellious.
– Ex 8:18-19 – 18 And the magicians did so with their enchantments to bring forth lice, but they could not: so there were lice upon man, and upon beast. 19 Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God: and Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the Lord had said.
– Exodus 31:18 – And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.
– Luke 11:20 – But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.
– Daniel 5: 5 In the same hour came forth fingers of a man’s hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaister of the wall of the king’s palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote. 6 Then the king’s countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another…. 26 This is the interpretation of the thing: Mene; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it. 27 Tekel; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting. 28 Peres; Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.
–
From this point forward, we begin to see the DISTINCTION BETWEEN THE RIGHTEOUS AND THE WICKED. Where else do we see that theme?
– Ex 8:22-24 – 22 And I will sever in that day the land of Goshen, in which my people dwell, that no swarms of flies shall be there; to the end thou mayest know that I am the Lord in the midst of the earth. 23 And I will put a division between my people and thy people: to morrow shall this sign be. 24 And the Lord did so; and there came a grievous swarm of flies into the house of Pharaoh, and into his servants’ houses, and into all the land of Egypt: the land was corrupted by reason of the swarm of flies.
– Malachi 3:15 -18 – 15 And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea, they that tempt God are even delivered. 16 Then they that feared the Lord spake often one to another: and the Lord hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon his name. 17 And they shall be mine, saith the Lord of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him. 18 Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.
It was the land of Goshen that was separated as the safe haven. Goshen means “Drawing Near”. Remember what the prophets were saying for the last year or so??? Push into intimacy. Draw near to Him. Dig deeper into the Word. Selah in His presence. This is why. Those who believed the prophets and put in the time in the secret place to draw near to hear His voice and His heart will prosper and be spared the plagues that will land upon Egypt. The first three plagues hit everyone, but the final seven only hit the Egyptians. Cross reference that same pattern of the plagues landing upon the disobedient while the righteous are spared.
– Isaiah 28: 12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.
– Ps 37: 25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. 26 He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed. 27 Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore. 28 For the Lord loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.
When the plagues landed, the barley and flax were wiped out but the wheat remained because God’s timing is perfect!
– Ex 9: 31 And the flax and the barley was smitten: for the barley was in the ear, and the flax was bolled. 32 But the wheat and the rie were not smitten: for they were not grown up.
Finally, the Kingdom of God’s laws will always supercede every nation’s laws.
– Galatians 5:22-23 – 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
– Matt 18:18-19 – 18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. -19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.
– Luke 11:2 – And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
So rejoice in the shaking. Rejoice in the midst of the plagues and the storms because the ROCK shall stand firm and anyone who clings to the ROCK will be secure.
