I woke up this morning with Isaiah 61 / Luke 4:18 ringing in my heart. So many prophets are releasing this message since January rolled in and I felt the LORD whisper, “Tell them WHO the captives in Prisons houses are.” The answer? Is 42:26 – “for they would not walk in his ways, neither were they obedient unto his law.”
These are the people the LORD wants to set free this year! This includes those that will be part of the LGTBQ revival Lou Engle and Bob Jones prophesied about back in 1990 and are re-sounding the clarion call to get back up on the prayer wall to birth that prophecy. The answer in Isaiah 42:26 also includes WHY there is judgment coming FIRST to the House of the LORD. (1 Peter 4:17; Eze 9:6) But before there is JUDGMENT, there is always a window for MERCY to be extended and opportunity to walk in FAITH. (Hosea 6:6) Before God does anything, he first tells His prophets. (Amos 3:7) It explains WHY the Fear of the LORD is returning to the remnant of the church. (Deut 6:1-2)
Let’s unpack how we get the conclusion FROM SCRIPTURE, which must be our plumbline, that the captives in prisons houses are those who disobey God’s commandments. The captives INCLUDE the servants of the LORD!
Jesus was paraphrasing His mandate recorded in Luke 4:18 above not only from Isaiah 61 but also Isaiah 42 and Isaiah 53.
Lk 4:18 – 18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
Isaiah 61 – The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
Is 53 – 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed, 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Is 42 – 8 Hear, ye deaf; and look, ye blind, that ye may see. 19 Who is blind, but my servant? or deaf, as my messenger that I sent? who is blind as he that is perfect, and blind as the Lord’s servant? 20 Seeing many things, but thou observest not; opening the ears, but he heareth not. 21 The Lord is well pleased for his righteousness’ sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honourable. 22 But this is a people robbed and spoiled; they are all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison houses: they are for a prey, and none delivereth; for a spoil, and none saith, Restore. 23 Who among you will give ear to this? who will hearken and hear for the time to come? 24 Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to the robbers? did not the Lord, he against whom we have sinned? for they would not walk in his ways, neither were they obedient unto his law.
1 Timothy 2:24-26 – 24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, 25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; 26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
Ps 103: Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. 2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: 3 Who forgiveth ALL thine iniquities; who healeth ALL thy diseases; 4 Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; 5 Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s. 6 The Lord executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed.7 He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel.8 The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. (**The “brokenhearted” refers to a fractured soul, much like a shattered mirror.)
So, if your eyes have been opened to the fact that you are one of those captives in prison houses, your key to freedom lies within following the pattern of the returning exiles in Nehemiah 8 & 9. Start by studying the Old Testament intentionally verse by verse, confessing and covering every broken commandment with the blood of Jesus that you or your ancestors have broken then start walking in obedience as the Holy Spirit gives you understanding of the scriptures. Repent of doing what was right in your own eyes and TURN to obey God’s commandments. The healing comes when you CONVERT (turn and act obediently), not merely at repentance (changing your thinking). Chase after the Baptism of the Holy Spirit to walk obediently in POWER. Then as you start to see the manifestation of blessings replacing the curses in your life, start sharing your testimony of the freeing power of repentance with whoever will listen!
Deut 12:8 – Ye shall not do after all the things that we do here this day, every man whatsoever is right in OWN eyes.
Nehemiah 8:1-3, 8 – And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the street that was before the water gate; and they spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the Lord had commanded to Israel. 2 And Ezra the priest brought the law before the congregation both of men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month. 3 And he read therein before the street that was before the water gate from the morning until midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive unto the book of the law…8 So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading…
Nehemiah 9:1-3 – Now in the twenty and fourth day of this [7th] month the children of Israel were assembled with fasting, and with sackclothes, and earth upon them.2 And the seed of Israel separated themselves from all strangers, and stood and confessed their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers. 3 And they stood up in their place, and read in the book of the law of the Lord their God one fourth part of the day; and another fourth part they confessed, and worshipped the Lord their God.
Luke 24: 44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. 45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, 46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: 47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Acts 28:27 (Berean) – For this people’s heart has grown callous; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn, and I would heal them.
