So often, I have heard people in prophetic circles declare that they are sons of God and heirs to an awesome inheritance. They have faithfully declared and decreed their prophetic words. Yet it has troubled me that after 4 years of watching, I am still waiting for that inheritance to manifest in 99% of those people. It certainly isn’t their lack of zeal or passion. Why the delay? Is it truly the devil delaying things like I’ve heard repeated so oft of late?
While people fellowshipped around our table on Nov 30 @ 4pm, I received an ah-ha that the delay is caused by the failure to grow up, or more specifically mature up, and as a result they have not reached the Father’s appointed time to receive their inheritance. More often than not, the lack of fulfillment cannot be blamed on the devil but rests squarely upon our own shoulders. He’s a defeated foe, remember?
Read with me Galatians 4:1-7 KJV – “Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all; 2 But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father. 3 Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world: 4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, 5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. 6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. 7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
A reason why so many have yet to receive their inheritance is because they have failed to submit themselves to their tutors and governors, thereby not allowing their faith to be justified and matured. They have chosen not to mature up. They have chosen to stay on milk instead of enduring the painful and lengthy process of cutting teeth capable of handling strong meat.
In Galatians 4:1, “child” is the Greek word, “Nepios” but in verse 7, “son” is “Huios.” According to Cindy Trimm’s teaching on the 8 stages of spiritual maturation, Nepios is stage 4 and Huios is stage 7,. “In this stage [4 – nepios], you are under tutors, and you have supervised authority; but you must learn to trust, respect, and submit to authority.” Paul reminds us in Galatians 3:24-25 that God’s Law is our tutor (schoolmaster).
Galatians 3:24-25 – 24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
Cindy Trimm teaches that in Stage 7 – Huios – This stage is characterized by high levels of discipline and chastening, but you must remain loyal to the process.
Hebrews 12:5-8 – 5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: 6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. 7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? 8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
It’s evident here that part of the problem is that many have been taught they don’t need to submit to the Law as their tutor, rather being taught they need to submit merely to their human leadership! The other piece of this problem is that the generations before have failed to honor God’s laws so much so that now a younger generation, for the most part, doesn’t even know God’s commandments exist even if they desired to obey! No longer do they value God’s commandments. No longer do churches nor fathers systematically teach their flocks God’s laws and ways – neither the letter of the Law nor the more important and stricter Spirit of the Law. For a lack of knowledge, the people perish. Only those who do and teach God’s commandments will end up being great in the kingdom of God.
Another ungodly belief that I hear quite commonly when anything is going wrong in someone’s life, “It’s the devil attacking me!” As long as they lack discernment as to the source of the trials & tribulations in their life, they will fight against them instead of submitting to and receiving God’s chastisement that is proof of His love for us. Let me rephrase that – Failure to receive chastisement is failure to receive God’s love and all the benefits it brings. Our societal view of disciplining children has become so skewed by the media that it is now considered abuse, calling evil good and good evil! No wonder we have a warped understanding of God’s love!
1 Corinthians 13:1-3 NKJV – “Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body [a]to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.”
Without love, we are nothing…not sons, not heirs. We profit nothing…no inheritance. We are no more than an irritating racket that drives people away from the Heavenly Father and His Son we declare we represent. It’s apparent by these verses and many others that it is possible to operate in spiritual gifts without love. We shall be known by our love and by our fruit. If we are bluntly honest with ourselves, what are we really producing?
Now begs the question – Is it even possible to change course this late in the game by introducing the Law of God taught through the eyes of Jesus to our congregations or must we abandon the Titanic – a vessel that touts almighty promises but delivers death – and flee to the lifeboats before the plagues land upon Babylon? Is it even possible for blind shepherds to teach us something they have no knowledge or understanding of? With God, all things are possible to those who are willing to believe (Deut 9:23).
We must cry out to God for shepherds who have His heart, who will lead us with knowledge and understanding God’s awesome love letter to us contained within His Law (Jer 3:15).
The remnant returning from exile to rebuild the temple need modern-day Ezra’s who will recognize those with understanding, and train them to teach the Book of the Law in their own homes. Then they in turn can teach those that are returning to love the LORD their God with ALL their heart, mind, and strength by making the Book of the Law clear and give the meaning so that the people may understand God’s love letter as it is read to them (Neh 8).
