I was rattling off the grocery list for my husband this morning and he looked at me surprised why I would need so many pickles just for Sunday. That’s the day we are doing canning. He still was not computing. I mentioned my canning partner found them 3L for $5 and he was shocked “They only come in 500ml!” Then I clicked. He thought I was asking for the bottles of Bicks dill pickles ALREADY pickled! Even still, he had been willing to obey the illogical request and pick me up 10 – 20 jars of ready to eat Bicks pickles, raw garlic and a sprig of dill. I was calling them pickles because I was seeing the end result in my mind and not using the correct lingo of baby cucumbers for his limited understanding and viewpoint of a grocery list when I’m talking canning.
Then the LORD highlighted the IMPORTANCE of not only KNOWING the command but UNDERSTANDING the LORD’S commands. How many of us bring our LORD a jar of blah mass produced pickles when He actually wanted to MAKE His own with a rich, unique flavor? We need to understand the thinking and language of our LORD by reading His logos word and internalizing His rhema word until we KNOW Him and what He’s meaning.
Let’s give an example. If someone asked you in today’s culture if you KNOW Jesus, the majority of North Americans would say “Of course! Who doesn’t?”. But let’s look at the scriptures to understand His meaning of the word “KNOW”. Now that figure would drop to less than 5%, based on visible fruit obedience produces!
1 john 2:3-4 KJV – And hereby we do know that we KNOW him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
The same goes for the lingo of “Fear the LORD” even in prophetic circles that have released words that the Fear of the LORD is returning to the Church. They are hearing one thing but the LORD is meaning another.
DEUT 6:1-2 – Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the Lord your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it: That thou mightest fear the Lord thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.
The more time you spend hanging on every Word of the LORD and getting to truly, intimately know your best friend and Lover, the more you will be in the loop and understand the correct meaning when He speaks.
